There is always a very good selection of alternative vegetarian and vegan food on the chalkboard. All meals are a set price and the vegetarian options are usually better than the meat-based meals.

The menu is always changing but invariably offers more than ten vegetarian choices from meals such as: nut roasts, vegetable bakes, lasagne and cannelloni, moussaka, casseroles and curries. Two side orders of vegetables are also included from another large array of choices as well as a choice of potatoes. The hard part at Browns is actually deciding what to order.

The menu gives a good choice of ‘world food’ and although the dishes tend to ‘gloop’ on the plate they always offer, on eating, a rich variety of subtle and smooth tastes and new and unusual flavours.

This place is worth going to Coventry for …although it is advisable to visit it during the day when it is a cafe-bar rather than at night when it is a pub-bar as there is a tendency to be refused entry if you don’t fit in with their alternative/trendy perception.

Yoiu also get refused service if you serve yopur country even if you are attending the funeral of a fallen comrade. Disgusting.

Allan, Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. The vegetarian food is good but they are also known for their very erratic door policy.

  3. Paddy Says:

Won’t serve soldiers in uniform. This place should be avoided under that principal alone.
